Global Citizen Year Fellowship

In our first decade, 1000+ Fellows immersed in communities across Brazil, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, and Senegal.

A world ahead

The Fellowship used the power of deep, cultural immersion to equip students with skills and perspectives that can’t be learned in a classroom alone. For eight months, Fellows lived with a host family and apprenticed to local efforts advancing education, health, and sustainability.

An extended immersion

For the equivalent of an academic year, Fellows immersed in a different country and culture where they built language fluency, developed resilience, and became part of a family a world away from home.

Curriculum for deeper understanding

Fellows explored complex global issues through the lens of lived experience. The wrap-around curriculum facilitated the integration of new perspectives into Fellows’ own values and sense of purpose.

A commitment to equity and inclusion

80% of Fellows received some level of need-based financial aid, and more than 30% received a full scholarship. By investing in promising young people who reflect our society’s diversity we’re changing the composition – and operating system – of our future leaders.

Vibrant and diverse, Brazil welcomed Fellows with samba beats, lively cities, unbeatable barbecue, gorgeous beaches, and so much more!

ECUADOR

Volcanic landscapes, indigenous communities, rich biodiversity, and a chill pace of life – there is so much packed into this small South American country!

INDIA

Colorful and complex, India invited Fellows to explore its astounding diversity of cultures, religions, languages, and (of course) its deliciously spiced cuisine!

SENEGAL

Senegal is famous for its remarkable hospitality and is called the land of teranga. Fellows truly experienced life in community as they shared meals, tea, and time together.
